Hypnotherapy helps
relieve the symptoms
of IBS
Hypnotherapy helps relieve the symptoms of IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). It is a common and uncomfortable disorder. IBS is thought to affect up to one in five people at some point in their life. It usually first develops when a person is between 20 and 30 years of age. Around twice as many women are affected as men. Those who suffer from IBS know that the embarrassing and painful symptoms can range from mild to severe.
Using hypnotherapy to overcome these problems is a swift and gentle process. It gives IBS sufferers the freedom to feel comfortable in all situations. Hypnotherapy is recommended by the NHS in its National Institute of Health and Care excellence (NICE) guidelines.
An article from the Daily Mail highlights the use of hypnotherapy and Professor Worwell from Withington Hospital in Manchester comments that ‘hypnotherapy helps by making people less anxious, it in some way makes the bowel less sensitive, thereby reducing symptoms’. He also suggests ‘hypnotherapy may have an impact on a part of the brain which processes pain called the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC)’.
